কেন যে আমি নিঝুম রাতে
তার কথা ভাবিতে ভাবিতে
ক্লিষ্টাবৃত্তি পাশরিতে
করে' গেছি তার যাচনা

কেন তাকে ধ্যানে দেখে'
হই যে আমি আনমনা
বাহির বিশ্ব হারিয়ে যায়
স্তব্ধ হয় পল গোনা

কেন যে আমি ভাবের স্রোতে
তারই সাথে মিশে' যেতে
দুঃখ-সুখের ঊর্ধ্বে হতে
করে' চলি তার এষণা
বুঝি বোঝাতে পারি না

Why had I become enamored?
I know not the why's answer.
Why had it felt so auspicious;
Thought did it take captive.

Why am I in nights serene,
On Him ever to think?
To set aside fatigue and grief,
Him have I solicited.

Why in meditation, Him having seen,
I become abstracted?
The outside world gets vanquished;
Stunned are seconds counted.

Why am I on a thought-stream
To mingle with Him only?
To be above glee and grief,
I go on craving Him.
Mayhap to explain I'm unable.
