বৃন্দাবনে বন কোন নাই
মনকে ঘেরে অট্টালিকাই
সে মাধুরী আর নাহি পাই
কদম্বেরই তলে
তুমি যেমন দেখেছিলে
যমুনা আজ শীর্ণকায়া
নেইকো বটের ছত্রছায়া
নেই তমালের কৃষ্ণ মায়া
কৃষ্ণ মেঘের কোলে
কৃষ্ণচন্দ্র লুকোলো কি
কালের অন্তরালে
Translation
Braja's Kanu, playing a bamboo flute,
Today why did You appear?
Mind's Jamuna dances no longer
To a melody and beat, thronged by things worldly.
At Vrndavan there is no forest;
High-rise buildings do the mind encircle.
No more do I find that sweetness
Under the kadam tree,
Like You had seen.
Today the Jamuna is shriveled;
There is not the banyan's shelter
There is not tamal's dark magic.
In lap of clouds ebony,
Did the moon-like Krsna hide,
Out of sight, behind a time-screen?
